Something Borrowed, Something Blue:  A Luxurious Return to the Timeless and Classic

More than 15 Atlanta Wedding Extravaganza vendors created a classic wedding scene that evokes the colors and timelessness of the Mediterranean.

Atlanta Wedding Extravaganza Producer Shelly Danz asked Lauren Hines, Founder of Hinesmark Affairs and President of Atlanta Wedding& Event Professionals, to create the vision for an of-the-moment styled shoot that would stand the test of time while showcasing the work of more than 15 Atlanta Wedding Extravaganza vendors.

Hines played up the idea that everything is “borrowed” at a styled shoot and married it with her observation that brides with discerning taste are “returning to the classics in a world full of short-lived trends.”

Theme

Hines found her inspiration in Grecian weddings that blend Old World charm and formality with a primarily monochromatic palette of blues set off by only white. She collected images of florals, furnishings, and décor that embodied the look she envisioned, carrying shades of blue from water to land to define a theme:  Something Borrowed, Something Blue: A Luxurious Return to the Timeless & Classic.

The Venue

In Swan Lake Overlook, Hines found the perfect backdrop for a fairytale Mediterranean wedding in metro Atlanta. The estate’s beautiful waters, lush green surroundings, and gentle wildlife created a timeless feel set apart from the bustle of the nearby city. A lake with an elegant fountain backdrop, manicured lawn and rolling hill set a verdant scene outside the venue that combines classic and modern aesthetics. Beyond the elegant exterior architecture, high ceilings and a large wall of windows frame a gracious reception space with rustic touches. Swan Lake Overlook is home to a group of eclectic animals including “fairy tale” and Sika deer, alpacas, emus, Bethlehem donkeys, horses, and swans.

Color Palette

Blue became anything but basic when the group began incorporating varying shades  -- from delicate to dusty to dark  -- into unique aspects of décor and fashion. They emulated ocean waves and shifting skies in tablescapes, wedding cake, and bouquets. Thoughtful, unique ensembles introduced flashes of gold and patterned touches.

Invitations

The invitation suite by Tigerlily Invitations complemented the blue floral theme with a classic monogrammed crest and vintage rose illustrations, printed on cotton cardstock in a dusty blue ink. An illustrated floral crest adorned the back of the rsvp card to display the couple's monogram at first glance. The entire set was enclosed in a blue rose printed vellum wrap topped off with blue silk ribbon. Envelope liners featured an antique landscape painting.

Furnishings

A show-stopping lounge with elements provided by Party Bound invited relaxed conversation. A light blue velvet sofa, silvery, sky-blue rug, marble and gold accented tables, navy velvet ottomans, and ivory linen poufs created quiet moments to soak in the surroundings. A high-gloss interlocking dance floor in white from Atlanta Dance Floor reflected the colors of the bride and groom’s ensembles.

 Cake

A six-and-a-half tiered wedding cake by It’s A Sweet Life Bakery displayed dramatic shades of blue fondant with white and silver accents. Sugar flowers and sugar lace cascaded down the tiers, each one unique in its design. A wood panel finish, navy gem, white wicker, white floral chrysanthemum stencils, blue and silver metallics, and white bubbled texture all appear in this azure to sky blue beauty.

Florals

Botachic designed a bold yet elegant blue floral Mediterranean motif starring light and dark blue hydrangeas. The supporting blooms included blue delphiniums, white stocks, button flowers, and chrysanthemums. Tie-dyed carnations, spray roses and baby’s breath created multi-dimensional blues for an ornate lakefront altar that transformed into a floral runner, a flowing river table centerpiece.

Tuxedo

Our groom wore a custom wool-cashmere blend groomsmen suit designed by Threads by Tré. The navy blue suit was complemented by a powder blue oversized velvet bowtie and pocket square.

Wedding Gown

The textured floral satin straight neckline and daring plunge of the Emily gown by White Swan Bridal Boutique evoked timeless elegance with a modern twist. The voluminous ballgown skirt and low back add a touch of opulence. Stud earrings and a pearl-crystal bracelet, along with a raw-edged cathedral veil scattered with pearls, finished our bride’s look.

Table and Tabletop

Daycoor provided a curated assortment of Chinoiserie votive vases, gold-tipped flatware and chargers, stunning hyacinth Hurricanes, and complementary textures from sapphire silk linens to wicker chargers set the stage for a meal to remember. A white farm dining table and elegant ghost chairs kept the focus on tabletop touches.

Beauty

Beauty By Bee achieved a romantic, classic makeup look using brands including Dior, Kat Von D, Danessa Myricks, and more. A bit of blue eyeliner carried the color theme into the makeup palette. Our bride’s hair was curled with a BayByliss curling iron, then pinned and set with Sebastian holding spray.

Photography

Atmospheric images that captured the many facets of the venue, its resident animals, and our striking bride and groom were taken by the talented Rebecca Marie Photography, with cinematography by Paradigm Film.

In the meticulously designed details of Something Borrowed, Something Blue, many exceptional Atlanta Wedding Extravaganza vendors ensured every element reflected timeless and enduring sophistication.
