Five Wedding Décor Trends for Unforgettable Photos

Whatever your wedding style an expert rental décor partner can help transform your venue.

We asked the team at Iconic Decor Rentals/We Rent Atlanta, development director Maryclaire Andres and company owner Marcia Henry, to share some recently popular wedding décor trends.

Walls that Work

Flower and grass walls have been around for a minute. But what if they could do more than look pretty? Maryclaire Andres, development director of IDR/WRA, said the evolution of these décor walls is the candle or wine wall that can hold lit candles (in holders) or champagne flutes for guest to serve themselves. “They really can create a romantic, dramatic setting,” she noted. Standing eight or 12 feet tall, this focal point works well in venues with high ceilings and provides a completely unique selfie backdrop.

Customizing such a wall is an IDR specialty as well, with a couples’ names, a favorite phrase or song lyric, or even a simple invitation to celebrate added to make it pop. Florists also love a wall they can embellish with more blooms than centerpieces can hold. Whether boxwood or strictly metallic, these walls can work with any décor style.

Beautiful Backdrops

Beyond walls, an increasing number of couples are looking for that extra oomph that a backdrop offers, either behind the ceremony altar, estate table, or sweetheart table. Here is where shapes can frame the wedding couple beautifully, with circular or arched options that give a vignette feel to professional photos.

Solid gold mirrored backdrops are the most popular, according to Maryclaire. But natural wood arch panels are gaining ground with couples looking for a more rustic, indoor/outdoor feeling. “Our couples adore the way backdrops take reception photos to another level. If couples are looking to create outstanding photo opportunities with their reception décor, a backdrop is a great choice.”

Choices include metallics, mesh, lighted, tufted, and many more. Custom options are available as well, according to Maryclaire.

The Best Seat in the House

How many different kinds of chairs are there to choose from? IDR’s showroom has more than 50, ranging from classic to modern, clear to bright mustard yellow. “While Chiavari chairs are still top of mind for many brides, more are looking for Chanel chairs, which also look lovely in a range of colors,” Marcia Henry, owner of IDR/WRA, noted. Feel free to mix it up, as well, because the days of uniform seating are long gone. “We can create a landscape of different seating options in your colors of choice, from side chairs to tufted ottomans to cocktail sofas,” she explained. IDR even has a wide selection of throne chairs for the bride and groom, for that VIP look.

Cake Swings

While cake tables have been the rage for years, cake swings are a relatively new way to draw attention to the classic wedding dessert. Not only do theydraw attention to the cake with its dramatic presentation, it also allows for more exciting photos of cake-cutting moments. Crafted from wood or acrylic, custom-made cake swings by IDR can be logoed, bedecked with florals, or understated and sleek to highlight the cake design.

“This is a trend we’re seeing a lot of, and it’s here to stay,” Marcia said. “Couples love having a way to uniquely present their wedding cake, and the illusion of it floating above the reception area draws guests’ attention, whether it’s an outdoor or indoor affair.”

Colorful Tabletops

Stemware in rose gold, sleek black, or vintage blue. Charger plates in emerald green, black and gold, or metallic rainbow. Flatware in shades of gold, mint green, or bold red. And tables that swerve. The sky’s the limit when it comes to options for glassware, flatware, tables, and place settings.

When couples come to the showroom, Maryclaire notes that they’re often surprised by the black and white wine glasses, which pop on a grand mirrored estate table. “Some couples didn’t know they could have colorful stemware, and it’s such an aha moment. They realize they can really get creative with their tablescapes!”
